The Light of the Deep is a Sumain-led physical theatre and Visual Vernacular (VV) performance exploring how two archetypal figures—a Fisherperson and a Miner—chase a flicker of light through wetlands, caves, and the deep sea. The work is Deaf-led, visually poetic, and entirely accessible to Deaf and hearing audiences through VV, projection design, and movement. 

The performance combines physical theatre, puppetry, and projected animation to create a layered world where the light transforms—from firefly, to moon, to lightning, to anglerfish bait—constantly testing the two characters’ philosophies: is light meant to be kept or shared?
